It was back in 2009, the first springtime after I got my Green Card, I participated in the Buckman Arts Show and Sell. It was my first juried show I participated in ever since I moved back to Portland, after working in Japan for 3 years. It was my Portland debut per se, not as a student or as a set-dresser, but as a little timid artist with a warm fuzzy heart. This is also where my first jellies were spotted in public!! They looked so different from the jellies now. I met so many amazing artists and beautiful and wonderful people who accepted me into the community in Portland. This experience always has had a special place in my heart.
For those of you who are not familiar with Buckman Elementary School, (click!!! even their website looks cool!!) it is an Art-magnet elementary school located in inner SE Portland which integrates "art forms of all kinds into the academic curriculum in ways
that would inspire deeper, more meaningful learning among students". Organized by parents and staff, it has been throwing this annual fundraiser for 23 years now, to help support their arts program.
I feel thankful for being welcomed back to the show after 4 years.
A lot has happened in my life since then. Thank you for nurturing me, Buckman! What a wonderful supportive community you
have. I hope you like my new jellies. They have grown a life of its own.
Come and see me next Friday and Saturday Portland friends! I will be there with my jellies and my fuzzies!!
